Raag Finder is an experimental tool for learning, practice and exploration. This page sets out the limits of what it can tell you. It forms part of our Terms of Use.

    1. Beta software, best-effort results

The Service is in active development. Detection algorithms, models, the raag database and the interface change frequently. Any raag identification, tonic estimate, swara set, phrase list or confidence score is a statistical estimate, not a determination. Two runs on the same recording can produce different answers.

    2. What affects accuracy

    • Recording quality, microphone, room noise, clipping and compression artefacts.
    • Presence or absence of a tanpura or drone, which strongly influences tonic (Sa) detection.
    • Accompanying instruments, percussion and multi-voice textures that survive vocal isolation.
    • Duration and completeness of the phrase — short or ornament-heavy clips carry little evidence.
    • Intonation, gamak, meend and microtonal shading that resist discrete swara mapping.
    • Raags that share the same swara set and differ only in phrasing, vadi/samvadi or treatment.

Errors, near-misses and confident-but-wrong answers should be expected.

    3. Not professional or academic advice

Nothing produced by the Service is musicological, educational, professional, cultural or legal advice. Do not rely on it for examinations, auditions, competitions, grading, publications, research citations, teaching material, broadcast metadata, licensing decisions, or any claim that a performance "is" a particular raag. Always verify with a qualified teacher or authoritative source.

    4. AI outputs

Parts of the analysis use third-party AI models for vocal isolation and for a second opinion. AI systems can be inaccurate, inconsistent, or confidently wrong, and may reflect biases in their training data. AI reasoning shown in results is an explanation of the model's output, not an expert judgement, and is not reviewed by a human before you see it.

    5. Raag reference data

The aroha, avaroha, thaat, vadi, samvadi, pakad, mood and time-of-day information in the explorer is compiled from publicly available references and traditional sources. Traditions, gharanas and schools differ, and sources disagree. The data may contain errors or omissions and is offered as a study aid only. Corrections are welcome at admin@workolo.com.

    6. Community and third-party content

Moods, comments, votes and suggested videos come from users. They are personal opinions, are not verified by us, and do not represent our views. Embedded performance and explanation videos are hosted by YouTube and remain the property of their uploaders; playing them is governed by Google's terms, and their inclusion is not an endorsement of the video, the performer, or any claim made in it. We remove content on valid complaint — see the takedown route in our Terms of Use.

Forum topics, connect requests, directory profiles and chat messages are created by members. Profile details such as talents, languages, occupation and city are self-reported and are not verified by us. Any lesson, collaboration, engagement, payment or meeting you arrange with another member is strictly between you and them and is undertaken entirely at your own risk.

    7. Headphones, drone and hearing safety

Live singing asks you to wear headphones so the tanpura drone does not bleed into the microphone. Set your volume to a comfortable level before starting the drone or the headphone check, and lower it if anything sounds loud or uncomfortable. Prolonged or loud headphone listening can damage hearing. The headphone check is an acoustic estimate and can be wrong in either direction; use your own judgement. Practise with the drone only in a setting where you can safely stop hearing your surroundings.

    8. Availability and data loss

The Service depends on third-party infrastructure and can be interrupted, degraded or withdrawn without notice. While we take care to store your analyses safely, you should keep your own copies of any recording that matters to you. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or the permanent retention of any file.

    9. No affiliation or endorsement

Workolo Entertainments is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any gharana, academy, institution, artist, label or rights holder, unless expressly stated. Names of raags, artists and works are used for identification and educational reference only.

    10. Limitation

Your use of the Service and any reliance on its output is at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for loss or damage arising from reliance on a result, community content, or reference data. The limits of liability in our Terms of Use apply in full.
